Nowadays there are many evidences that show the necessity of a new scientific Society, which should explore the big and complex subject of addiction. The main purpose of the Society is to ensure a clear operational and representative interface for health operators who work in Drug Addiction Centers. and private communities, providing scientific information and practical training paths. All these paths are intended as a tool for specialized advancement, professional updating and also protection of public and private workers’ rights.
The Italian Society S.I.Pa.D. (Italian Society of Addiction Deseases) wants to promote all these elements, supporting participation and scientific, programmatic and organized debates, through a free and constructive contribution of those who will offer their expertise, experience and collaboration.
For these reasons, S.I.Pa.D.’s main purposes are:
- The beginning of a concrete and well-structured programming action, with the implementation of training and information activities, respecting the CME regulations, through not only conferences but also considering the specific necessities of local operating services;
- The production of National Guide Lines, using the whole experience of health operators in Drug Addiction Centers, paying particular attention to the appropriateness of health interventions;
- To support regional and national research, and develop significant experiences and good practices provided by health professionals. These initiatives will concern prevention, treatment and clinic management of addiction, and will be implemented through professional exchange and mutual visits in health services;
- To offer the collaboration and the expertise of its members, together with national, regional, local, public and private institutions, and to discuss about coherence between necessities and health rights of people, and about legislative and operational decisions;
- To seek, recognize and promote effective management models, oriented to the optimization of resources, the reinforcement of operators’ expertise, the humanization of health care and the protection of the rights of addicted patients;
- To increase and develop productive relationships with local Universities and to build shared and nationally applied curricula, to create a specialisation school and masters;
- To promote initiatives of “Quality Improvement”, and to build a therapeutic and social “mark” of Italian expertise, which will show to the world the Italian therapeutic model and the interventions of Italian health operators in Drug Addiction Centers and therapeutic communities.
Considering all these objectives, S.I.Pa.D. is sure to satisfy many requests about the issue of addiction, but its members are also available for any suggestion and advice. The Society is also happy to share the space of this website to meet anyone who is pursuing the same goals, with a sharing point of view, free from any personal and partisan interest.
